The Perfect Family Garden Crafts

Garden crafts are a wonderful way to brighten up your yard while also having fun. They can bring some personality to your garden no matter the season. Crafts are a fun way to show off your artistic side no matter your skill level.

Some garden crafts can be made from recycled products, which is beneficial to the environment. In fact, many crafts can be made from products you already have around the house. Here are some awesome crafts you can share with the whole family.

Painted Flower Pots

Flower pots are a great addition to any garden. They come in all sorts of sizes and are easy to manage, with many types of plants capable of growing in them. Decorating flower pots is a fun and simple craft, especially for children.

One great way to decorate flower pots is to use your thumbprints to decorate with paint. By using your thumbprints, you can easily make butterflies and bees. Use different colors to make the designs on the pot and then use a sharpie to define their features.

Any old flower pot will work, but terra cotta pots look lovely hand painted. Then, decorate them with a basic acrylic craft paint and permanent markers.

Garden Markers

If you have a garden where you are growing vegetables or herbs, you can make markers with your family to label each plant you grow. Not only will this help keep your garden organized, but it is also an easy way to get crafting.

Simply glue two popsicle sticks lying horizontally on one popsicle stick that is vertical. Paint the horizontal popsicle sticks whatever color your family likes. Then label the sticks according to what plants you are growing in your garden and place them accordingly.

If you’re crafty you could use twigs or sticks for the markers. Or, fancy them up with some craft chalkboard paint onmini wooden craft shapes or raw wood slices.

A quick google search should give you and your kids all sorts of images and ideas for these easy garden markers.

Seed Bombs

Seeds bombs are a great activity that the whole family can chip in on making. They are made of seeds that have been wrapped in soil materials, such as a mix of clay and compost, and are then dried out. They are then planted and keep the seeds safe until it is time for germination.

To make seed bombs, you will need:

  • Seeds
  • Compost (or soil from your own yard)
  • Water
  • Powdered clay (or clay soil or even clay cat litter can work)
  • Mixing bowl

To make your seed bombs, take your mixing bowl, combine one cup of seeds, five cups of compost, and two to three cups of clay. Slowly mix in water until you have added enough that the mixture sticks together. Roll the mixture into balls and allow them to dry out in the sun.

After the seed bombs are dried out, your family can plant them in your yard and wait for them to grow. Not only is making the seeds bombs a great craft but then your family can enjoy watching the flowers grow after planting them.

Paint Your Own Stepping Stones

Stepping stones can be a great addition to any garden. To give them pizzaz, have each family member paint their own stepping stones based on something they like. They can come in round or square, or even come in unique shapes like flowers, hearts, and butterflies.

And, if you’re really crafty, you can pick up some cement mix and make your own stepping stones from scratch! Or, use one of these cute hand-print stepping stones kits to make a memory keeper at the same time!

Painted Rocks

This craft is super easy and kids can really use their imagination on this one. For older kids, they can paint flowers, insects, write their names or names of the flowers. Younger kids will enjoy using color and painting random designs. Again, some basic crafting acrylic paint is all you need.

And, for rocks, have the kids dig through the garden to find some!

DIY Bird Feeder

Not only are bird feeders fun to make, but it is enjoyable to be able to bird watch and track all the different types of birds that visit your garden. Making a bird feeder can be a fun and easy project that can be done using stuff you have in your house.

Simply take an old milk or juice carton and wash it clean. Cut an opening in the front of the carton that is at least 2-3 inches tall. Glue a popsicle stick below the opening and then the family can work together in painting the feeder.

Or,   here’s another easy cookie cutter birdseed feeder that’s easy and fun to make with kids.

Make a Bee Water Station

Bees are an important part of our ecosystem. They are vital when it comes to having a thriving garden. Making a bee water garden is a great way to help your local bees stay hydrated.

To make a bee water garden, you’ll need a shallow dish, stones, or decorative gems and water. Arrange the stones or gems in the shallow dish, then fill it partially with water so the bees can still stand on the rocks. This is a great activity for the whole family to make that the bees will greatly appreciate.

Making crafts for your garden is a wonderful way to spend time with your family. No matter the age, everyone can help with these crafts that will make the family garden unique and beautiful.
