Fall Scavenger Hunts for Kids

Looking for some simple and fun ways to get your littles outside this fall?  These fall scavenger hunts are super easy to use and all kids love a good hunt!

How to use these fall scavenger hunts

1. Download the fall scavenger hunts from our members-only resource library (if you’re not already a member of the Take Them Outside Newsletter you can sign up here)
2. Print them out
3. Head outside!

The great thing about scavenger hunts is that they can be used in all sorts of ways.

• You might choose to turn the scavenger hunt into a photo hunt and bring along a real or toy camera to photograph all your finds.
• You could bring some markers and have the kids cross off items as they find them
• You can have kids do the hunt individually or as a large group

If you do have a group of children, you could hand out small pails or paper bags with the scavenger hunt attached.  When treasures are found, the kids throw them in the pail / bag to look at later. 

Sings of Fall Scavenger Hunt

This hunt is perfect to use on a walk around your neighborhood.  It includes finding natural things like dried flowers and leaves, but also includes things like decorations and fall clothing.

Counting Autumn Scavenger Hunt

Counting Autumn is a fun hunt for preschool aged children.  They’ll need to find one item of this, then two of that, and three of those… and so forth.  The last will have them collect 10 twigs and use those to spell out their initials.

This scavenger hunt will have them collecting a variety of items.  You may want to head out with a basket or bucket to contain all their finds.  Afterwards it would be fun to have the kids make a picture collage on the ground or bring them inside to have them glue all the items into one big welcome fall wreath or put them into a bowl for a dining room table centerpiece.

Counting Signs of Fall will also have your kids outside learning and playing with numbers as well as nature. If you are homeschooling your preschoolers, you could have them match up their items to number tokens or put them in order of smallest to largest number groups.
